Gunmen ambushed a vehicle carrying 21 passengers from the Sabon Birni Regional Government Area in Sokoto State on Monday.
Several passengers including children traveling from the town of Sabon Birni to the town of Isa near Nigeria’s border with Niger were then burned to death. Police spokesman Sanusi Abubakar said several others were hospitalized for severe burns. Although other accounts show the number of those killed is around 30 but the police have yet to state a casualty figure.
Some reports said the assailants intentionally set the vehicle on fire, burning its occupants alive while other accounts showed a fire lit on the bus as a result of the gunfire of the assailants.
